Within the framework of the PSMNR engagement strategy with Korup National Park (KNP), ESUDEV supported a co-management approach that reduces pressure on biodiversity by providing alternative, high-value livelihoods to selected resource users engaged in illegal activities in and around the park.

Headline: Transforming Lives and Protecting Biodiversity in Korup National Park
In a landmark effort to reduce human pressure on the biodiversity of Korup National Park (KNP), ESUDEV, in partnership with the Program for the Sustainable Management of Natural Resources (PSMNR), has successfully implemented a high-value livelihood project. By providing sustainable alternatives to poachers and other resource users, the initiative is fostering a new era of co-management and conservation.
The project targeted key communities in Cluster B (Bajoh and Baro) and Cluster F (Ikassa and Mosongiseli). Fifteen beneficiaries underwent intensive training in Kumba, where they gained essential skills in pig and goat rearing. Following this, ESUDEV provided technical support during the installation phase (May 2022), which included selecting healthy piglets and goats, formulating specialized feed, and ensuring all animals were properly vaccinated.
This initiative isn’t just about providing animals; it’s about creating a sustainable ecosystem where community members become guardians of the park while building stable, legal livelihoods for their families.
